About Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Susan G. Komen for the Cure (SGK), headquartered in Dallas, TX, is a nonprofit organization founded in 1982 by the late Ms. Komen’s sister, Nancy G. Brinker.

How SGK works

SGK is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists, working together to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Thanks to events like the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® and the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, and generous contributions from our partners, sponsors and fellow supporters, SGK has become the world’s largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.

Washington National’s role

The Komen Race for the Cure is the nation’s largest charitable run/walk-a-thon event supporting breast cancer research. In alignment with Washington National’s business commitment to assist those who are diagnosed with cancer, we have supported and participated in the race each year since 2000. Through personal donations, pledges and campus fundraisers, company employees raise thousands of dollars each year to finish among the top corporate fundraising teams.
